Make Sure You are Educated on Your Choices when You Buy Dog Food: Vary Your Choices

It can be intimidating to say the least when you go to buy dog food.  There are so many different brands and choices that it can be hard to tell which the best options are – not only for your budget but for your pet as well.  There are different categories to choose from when you buy dog food such as premium and economy, super-premium, regular and performance.  So how do you know which is the right choice when you buy dog food?  This all depends on your dog’s needs.

Economy – Economy brands are usually the lowest priced when you buy dog food.  This is because they use low-quality ingredients, and feature cereal grains like soy, corn and wheat as the first ingredient followed by a meat source.  Because economy dog food is lower quality, you will have to feed more to your dog in order to meet its nutritional needs, which raises the cost per feeding when you buy dog food of this nature.
Regular – Regular dog food is priced moderately and usually contains soy as the primary ingredient.  These brands are typically what you will find when you buy dog food at your local grocery store.
Premium – Premium dog foods are the next step up in quality and typically provide good value when you buy dog food.  Premium dog foods have more ingredients that are easily digestible by your dog.
Super Premium – When you buy dog food that is described as super premium you are getting a higher crude protein content because higher quality meat sources are used and it does not contain soybeans.
Performance – A performance dog food is specially designed for active dogs, such as hunting and sled dogs.  These foods do not contain soy and have around 20% fat and 30% protein.
